For years, the lawyers at Stok Kon + Braverman have been providing skilled representation to our clients in a variety of legal matters. Our team of experienced professionals combines the personalized attention of a small firm with the deep resources of a large firm. This combination has earned us a strong reputation in the legal community throughout Florida. We believe in working efficiently and effectively for our clients, taking cases from their beginnings, through negotiations and trial, to potential appeals and post-judgment actions. Our knowledgeable lawyers handle a wide variety of matters for clients throughout Broward County. Some of our core practice areas include commercial litigation, family law, business law, real estate, immigration, probate and guardianship, and intellectual property.
Seek Legal Guidance for a Business Issue
Many Florida business owners come to us for guidance on matters involving breach of contract, unfair competition, trade secrets, partnership dissolutions, and more. For example, a breach of contract can arise when one party to the agreement fails to perform its obligations. In such an instance, the non-breaching party can typically take legal action against the breaching party. The usual remedy consists of monetary damages, although in some unusual situations a court can issue an injunction ordering the breaching party to perform its obligations as stated in the agreement. The types of damages the non-breaching party can recover will depend on the contract in question and the extent to which it has been violated.

Bankruptcy
At times, unfortunately, a business does not maintain its profitability, whether because of internal or external factors. Its owners may consider filing for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the federal Bankruptcy Code. We understand that both debtors and creditors have important rights in these situations, and our ability to see the two sides of these disputes allows us to represent either of them with care and zeal.
Creditor’s Rights
We represent businesses, financial institutions, lenders, and lien holders in state court and bankruptcy litigation. Our attorneys have years of experience in both state court and bankruptcy court representing creditors. In addition, our commercial litigation experience allows us to understand your perspective and tailor our services to meet your goals. We know that it does not make sense to spend an enormous amount of money to collect on a debt. That is why we develop a strategy to conduct your case in a timely and cost-effective manner.
We can defend you in contested matters, adversary proceedings, and preference lawsuits to ensure your lien or claim receives fair treatment in bankruptcy proceedings. We pursue your claims in bankruptcy cases, including motions for relief from the automatic stay and objections to plans of reorganization. We provide representation to business debtors seeking to reorganize under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code.
Stok Kon + Braverman knows how to fight for creditor’s rights in Florida’s state courts and in bankruptcy cases. Our experienced attorneys can assist you with debt collection and execution of judgments in the Florida court system.
Construction Litigation
In addition, our lawyers can assist you with mechanics’ lien (construction lien) disputes. We represent developers, contractors, owners, and other parties in lien enforcement and removal actions. We take action against delays, poor workmanship, non-payment, code violations, and more. To save you the expense and time of a trial, we will attempt to resolve your dispute through negotiation. However, sometimes litigation is the answer. You can be sure that our experienced attorneys will present a strong argument on your behalf.
We have years of experience negotiating and litigating lawsuits involving real property owners, developers, investors, contractors, architects, engineers, materials providers, and lien holders. Our comprehensive knowledge of Florida commercial real estate law and our business experience also informs our construction litigation practice. We will strive to resolve your construction dispute as quickly as possible.
Immigration Law
We have accumulated significant experience in securing and preserving immigration status for non-citizens. With rigorous attention to detail, we can guide companies and individuals through the challenging paperwork needed to apply for a business visa or a green card. Moreover, non-citizens living in this country sometimes will face the serious threat of removal, or deportation, under one or more provisions of the labyrinthine immigration laws. Our lawyers can help assist them at this potentially life-changing crossroads, constructing the most persuasive case possible for why they should be allowed to stay in the United States.
We know there is more to immigration law than rules and regulations. It’s about keeping families together, assisting people in securing employment in the U.S. and helping investors enter the U.S. marketplace. Your way of life and family are at stake. We will spend time with you and explain the process step by step.
Stok Kon + Braverman has experienced attorneys who will guide you through the entire immigration process. We handle green cards, employment and business visas, and representation in removal proceedings. Our attorneys are knowledgeable and always up to date on the latest changes in immigration law.
- Family-based immigration: We have years of experience preparing applications for lawful permanent residence (green cards), marriage and fiancé(e) visas, and petitions for immediate family members. We provide representation in the U.S. and through consular processing at U.S. embassies and consulates around the world.
- Removal (deportation): We often appear in immigration courts throughout Florida, representing clients in cases involving asylum, withholding removal, convention against torture, overstay/unlawful presence, and criminal matters affecting immigration status.
- Specialized visas: We provide representation for religious worker visas, student visas, and O and P visas for entertainers.
- Waivers and appeals: We are skilled in obtaining hardship waivers, as well as pursuing appeals to the Board of Immigration on behalf of our clients.
- Employment visas, business planning, and compliance issues: We have extensive experience obtaining E-1/E-2 treaty trader/investor
visas, L-visas for intra-company transfers, H-1b professional visas, labor
certifications and NAFTA and TN visas. Our immigration, corporate, and real estate departments work together to prepare corporate documents and negotiate and draft leases, deeds, and other contracts.
Sensitive Representation in Family Law Matters
In determining custody arrangements, courts will look to the best interests of the child. Generally, this means dividing their time with each parent in a relatively even way as long as this is practically feasible and there are no issues of substance addiction or domestic abuse. Legal custody is also usually divided evenly between the former spouses when possible. This refers to the right to make important decisions regarding the child’s upbringing, such as those involving education, religion, and medical treatment.
Appellate Litigation
Appellate litigation involves the legal assessment of your case in the context of Florida legal precedents and encompasses research and analytical skills that transcend standard trial work. You need an attorney with the research, writing, and oral argument skills that stand up to the scrutiny of a higher court. If we handle your case at trial, we will begin laying the groundwork for a successful appeal. Our strategy includes connecting with the jury, communicating successfully with the judge, and preparing detailed records for review by the appellate court.
Cases we handle in appellate court are primarily focused on commercial law, business law, real estate law, and family law, including visitation rights and property rights.
Not every case is eligible for an appeal. Circumstances that warrant an appeal include:
- Defending an appeal of a favorable trial result
- Mistakes related to points of law
- Procedural errors by the trial court
- An abuse of the trial court’s discretion

We support the complete scope of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, and copyright law.
